Meet Our Winemaker Celia Welch Masyczek

Celia was born and raised in Southern Oregon as the daughter of parents who loved wine, home winemaking, gardening and great food. Encouraged to explore a career in professional winemaking as a route to following her passion of flavors and aromas, Celia studied at UC Davis, graduating with a degree in Fermentation Science in 1982.

To extend her education, Celia explored the winegrowing regions of the Northwest, the East Coast, and New Zealand before working in Australia's Barossa Valley. Upon returning to Napa Valley, she worked at wineries on Mt. Veeder, in the Carneros and in Stags Leap District. In 1992 Celia began a small consulting practice with Staglin Family Vineyard, her first client, and realized the joy in working with small, single-vineyard estate properties and the passionate visionaries who own them.

Celia currently consults for a limited selection of ultra-premium Napa Valley clients, primarily with their own estate vineyards, and produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Celia works with small Napa Valley vineyards ranging from Calistoga to Carneros, and from Mt. Veeder to Atlas Peak.

She has been honored with The Rising Star Award, from the So. Cal. Chapter of Women for Winesense, and has been admitted to the Winemaker's Hall of Fame by the national chapter of the same organization. Forbes.com honored her as one of America's Top Ten Tastemakers in 2005. She is a professional member of the ASEV, and a past co-chair of the Napa Valley Wine Technical Group.

When not making wine, Celia loves to do anything outdoors with her two children, John and Marie, and with her giant dog Buck.
